LA ROUX'S TOUR DELAYED OVER VOLCANO

British double act La Roux have been forced to delay the start of their u pcoming U.K. tour as a result of the chaos following a volcano eruption i n Iceland last week (15Apr10).
The Bulletproof hitmakers were due to start their trek in Southampton, England on Friday (25Apr10), but they have now pushed back the date becau se of the complications surrounding the eruption, which grounded all flig hts to and from Europe over the weekend.
La Roux were also scheduled to perform in Reading on Saturday (26Apr10) night, but they have rescheduled the show for 04 May (10), while the Sou thampton gig will now take place on 13 June (10).

Ben Langmaid is the second half of La Roux, who partakes in all live performances with the band. Langmaid, a London-based producer and composer has been involved with various other music projects in the past. He has a close association with Rollo Armstrong of Faithless; the two musicians went to the same school and later collaborated as Huff & Puff in the mid 90s, releasing the house single 'Help Me Make It' in 1996. Langmaid also recorded as Atomic and was one half of Huff & Herb before contributing as a songwriter to indie band Kubb's debut album 'Mother', released in 2005. This project was again linked to Rollo Armstrong; Kubb's frontman Harry Collier was introduced to Langmaid after Collier sang Happy Birthday to Armstrong whilst working as a waiter in a North London organic cafe. Elly Jackson's first interest in music revolved around folk music. She was particularly interested in Carole King and Nick Drake whom she discovered in her parents' record collection. (Her mother is Trudie Goodwin, who rose to fame playing June Ackland on long-running police series The Bill.) Jackson's early musical material consisted of folk ditties informed by Joni Mitchell. Her taste in music changed during her mid-teens when she became involved in the melodic death-metal scene.
Jackson has been linked to a pop music trend that features androgynous twenty-something women with a strong individualistic attitude. She has cited musicians David Bowie, Madonna, Max Cavalera, Prince , The Knifeand actor David Schwimmer as her influences. She co-designs her own clothing with her pet dog, Snappy. Live Review: La Roux Delivers Dance Music for the Dejected @ The Showbox

 Who they are: An English electropop duo (composed of Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid) that shot to superstardom in 2009, dominating the dance charts with music crammed full of synthesizers and catchy/simpering lyrics.
Why listeners dig them: Sure, it's been done before, but La Roux melancholy retro pop now seems refreshingly sincere in a genre that's become too polished since the rise of Lady GaGa and her minions.
The crowd: Eclectic as hell. Tweens, drag queens, and of course, plenty of hipsters, all dancing up a storm. At one point, I thought I smelled French fries, but it was actually the salty scent of the person next to me sweating profusely.
The show: One hour of falsetto sulking over screwed up relationships, with synthesizers and danceable beats thrown in. Hello, 80s throwback! (I mean that in a good way.)
A few notes on Elly Jackson: La Roux's lead singer is stylin. She rocked her trademark androgynous look; the fiery-orange pompadour, massive shoulder pads, and skinny jeans. (Is it just me, or is Elly a dead ringer for English actress Tilda Swinton?)
Highlight: La Roux cover of the Rolling Stones classic "Under My Thumb." Jackson admitted she "didn't normally like covers," but that this was a worthy exception. Indeed it was.
WTF moment: The young, hormonal couple engaged in 30-plus minutes of PDA on the dancefloor. Gross. Be in lust in the privacy of your own damn home. Or, in your case, your parents' home. Thanks.
What next?: La Roux played this summer to a near-empty room at Chop Suey. Less than a year later, overzealous fans packed Showbox at the Market. Surely, if they continue to record music like that on their debut album, La Roux will sell out Showbox SODO, a la Ladytron and Ratatat.

Whereas Gaga’s “music is widely acknowledged to be pretty awful—sort of Britney Spears meets late-Madonna,” La Roux’s music is also kinda like Madonna’s, "but cool—early—Madonna,” Chen writes for Gawker. Jackson also has the advantage when it comes to the categories of controversial-yet-interesting soundbites and the aforementioned headgear style. Pop-smart La Roux charms Commodore

Swaggering around the stage as if she'd stepped out of a Renaissance painting, singer Elly Jackson showed up in an outfit set to impress. Dressed in a jacket that looked like a deconstructed set of damask-patterned drapes and an oversized cameo necklace, Jackson proved she has the look to match the sound.

Launching straight into "Tiger Lily," the U.K. quartet had the sold out Commodore bouncing almost instantly. I felt a sense of relief for my photographer friend in the pit seeing the large barricade set up behind her -- and with good reason, as the crowd never let up all night.
Even with a slight technical glitch on the drums, Jackson showed her ability to work a crowd on the fly, introducing her band to loud pops, and regaling the Commodore about her band's trip to the Coachella desert festival earlier in the weekend.
After the drum set had been repaired, La Roux picked right back up with a B-side, "Saviour," which hardcore fans knew just as well as any of the album tracks.
Adding to the dimensions of the stage setup was an impressive LED lit backdrop, creating a flurry of colours and effects custom tailored to each musical number. The crowd sang along with every lyric, belting out the bridges and choruses just as loud as the singer herself. The sassy "I'm Not Your Toy" took on new meaning with scads of women shouting "You just like the attention!," a true kiss-off to douchebag ex-boyfriends.
Like any band with only one album under their belt, a cover is usually part of the mix, and although La Roux's choice was surprising, the Rolling Stones's "Under My Thumb" blended right into the set with the group converting the classic track into a synth workout. Even on the slower ballad "Cover My Eyes", the crowd ate up every word, feeling the pain of the left-for-another-girl heart-stomper.
Feeling the constant pressure of the crowd, I made my way to the back to get a good wide view of the stage and light show, I came across a large crowd of people all vogueing at the back of the club.

Nominations for the 55th Ivor Novello Awards, the UK's most prestigious songwriting awards, were announced yesterday. THE Bill legend Trudie Goodwin has slated ITV bosses for killing off the cop show.

Trudie, 58, who played Sergeant June Ackland between 1984 and 2007, told Sky1's Angela and Friends: "They messed about with it too much.

"They moved it around the schedule. It didn't end up being The Bill."

Trudie, mum of La Roux singer Elly Jackson, added: "It's not the show's fault, it's the people who made it over the years."

ITV axed The Bill after ratings fell when it was moved to a 9pm slot. Synth pop duo La Roux have been forced to swap round some tour dates on their forthcoming UK tour.
With Iceland's volcanic ash now receding, British airspace has re-opened providing welcome relief to beleaguered travellers. Alongside this, the music world has been able to settle down after two weeks of non-stop cancellations.
Greatly affecting American festival Coachella, a number of acts have been stuck on the wrong side of the Atlantic. Synth-pop duo La Roux were caught out by the eruption, left stranded in the United States.
Missing the start of their UK tour, La Roux have been forced to re-arrange two tour dates. Shows in Southampton and Reading have been re-arranged, with ticket details remaining the same.
La Roux were due to play Southampton's Guildhall on April 25th, with this show now taking place on June 13th. Meanwhile the duo's show in Reading has been moved from April 26th to May 4th.
Starting on April 28th in Brighton, La Roux new UK tour sees the duo play some of their largest venues to date. Since the success of last year's single 'In For The Kill' the band have enjoyed huge success.
Given a nifty dubstep re-working by Skream, the duo have been nominated for an Ivor Novello award. 'In For The Kill' will do battle with some big name acts at the London ceremony, with the awards set to take place in May.

The single Rocket comes with an "eight four" and a "one zero" remix, just to emphasise the time-jumping. The element I'm less keen on – though it's inseparable – is the aspirational return, where musicians and fans see pop's history as a rebuke to its inferior present. This is how successful revivals work: like a storytelling tradition, ideas are passed down a generation with the details changing in whatever way the new audience needs them to. Why this happens isn't hard to understand: pop music is identified with youth by critics, marketers and former youths alike, but there's mountains of it already, and most is not itself terribly young. Trying to make sense of the music that shaped you is a noble endeavour, and nothing new. From one angle much British music of the 70s – from Roxy Music to Showaddywaddy to the Sex Pistols – seems like an attempt to work out what to do with 50s rock'n'roll. Back in the 1990s, wags like me would occasionally quip that the decade couldn't be revived; it was already such a hotchpotch of half-borrowed styles that any music drawing on it would be a Xerox of a Xerox. I was being silly. With time, the differences between, say, Britpop and the 60s and 80s music that sometimes inspired it seem sharper. The fact Cigarettes and Alcohol borrows from T. They said a 90s revival could never happen – but it seems we're on the cusp of one already. Use your nostalgia toolbox wisely, people
The second album by the Danish pop act Alphabeat has been and largely gone, to reviews ranging from lukewarm to savage. I enjoyed it, partly because of its brazen revivalist intentions. It summoned a throng of 1990s pop ghosts, from Ace of Base to Corona, and running through it were the huge, sad keyboard sounds of 90s trance records – great glass spears of melancholy sending me back to a time I never realised I could miss.
